Firewire interface for laptop4/7/2023 ![]() ![]() The vanilla Macbook doesn't qualify, the MacBook Pro might, but I'd rather buy another, Windows based, laptop because it will be richer featurewise for that money. For the drive itself, look for the best $/GB ratio and as large a cache (16-32MB) as possible. It will be just as fast as an internal SATA drive. Now unless you can postpone until USB3.0 is out, I'd look for a laptop with an eSATA port. The 3-Port FireWire-800 PC Card from LaCie adds two FireWire-800 ports and one FireWire-400 port to your notebook computer. A laptop usually has only one drive, being the system drive and you do not want to record on the system drive. You will also need an external drive to record on. Now this is often overlooked but very important: :!: RAM: Get the most you can afford, at least 2GB, but 3GB won't hurt. ![]() If you dont want to pay this much, it will be a good example of what you need.
